Adam Yates managed to finish third in the Tour de France and on the penultimate stage of the Tour de France 2023 he helped Tadej Pogacar to the stage win. After his great work, he made it clear that UAE Team Emirates' plan was to finish the Grande Boucle with a victory for the Slovenian.
"We fought for Tadej's victory, we tried to control everything, something that is difficult when it's the last stage, we tried to control, in the end I could come back with Simon and Tadej was the fastest," the Briton said in a post-race interview. "It's not easy to be the best the three weeks, he has a lot of pressure during the whole year, so we finish the Tour happy, maybe we can get it next year."
After sealing the first podium of his career in a grand tour stage race, he was naturally more than satisfied. However, he regretted that they had not achieved the main objective of winning the Tour with Tadej Pogacar: "I'm happy, it's my best result in a Grand Tour. I'm happy, although a bit disappointed because we came here to try to get the victory."
About Tadej, he made it clear after losing more than five minutes on Wednesday that he was going to come back to fight for a win before the end of the Tour: "He said on the bus that he wanted to attack and go full throttle, he's a great champion."
