According to the Norwegian TV2, a striking transfer has been completed: Andreas Leknessund would make the switch to Uno-X Pro Cycling Team after this season. The Norwegian of Team DSM would be going back to his roots. From 2018 to 2020, he already raced for the Uno-X structure.
According to TV2, the deal between Leknessund and the Pro team from his own country is therefore complete. Team boss Jens Haugland however could not confirm the news to TV2 yet. According to the rules of the UCI, transfers can only be announced from August 1. "It's no wonder I'm getting calls asking if we're interested in Leknessund, but I'm not going to reveal anything," said Haugland.
Leknessund has been known for years as a great talent. The Norwegian turned professional at DSM in 2021 and is now in his third season with the team. Last year Leknessund made his breakthrough with a stage victory in at Tour de Suisse and Arctic Race of Norway, where he also took the final classification.
This year, the Giro d'Italia is a big goal for Leknessund. He started the race strongly with a second place in stage 4, in which he took over the pink jersey from Remco Evenepoel. Leknessund held on to Maglia Rosa for five days before losing it in the second time trial at the end of the first week. Leknessund is currently competing for a good final result as he currently sits 5th in the general classification.
