The
Giro d'Italia 2025 has left behind its 18th stage, which gave the overall favourites the last 'rest' day before the final challenge in the mountains. This coming Friday and Saturday will decide the winner of the opening Grand Tour of the year and it's fair to say, it's still all to play for.
On man who won't be involved however, is Juan Ayuso. The Spaniard, who already dropped to 26th in the general classification thanks to a prior, decided to abandon the Giro d'Italia after suffering a bumblebee sting by his eye, which left it swollen and riding blind in one eye. As a result though, UAE Team Emirates - XRG have now lost another possible domestique for race leader
Isaac del Toro ahead of this key weekend.
The Mexican will face, above all,
Richard Carapaz and
Simon Yates. Both remain his two main threats in his defence of the maglia rosa, which he has been wearing since the sterrato stage 9. Behind, things remain the same, with no incidents other than that of Ayuso.
Derek Gee will start 4th on Friday,
Damiano Caruso 5th,
Egan Bernal 6th,
Giulio Pellizzari 7th,
Einer Rubio 8th for Movistar Team, and
Adam Yates and
Michael Storer close out the Top 10.
