Geraint Thomas on Tadej Pogacar's stage 17 implosion: "You feel sorry him. You never like to see someone suffering"

Tadej Pogacar saw his Tour de France dreams shattered on stage 17. The Slovenian fully cracked and shipped nearly 6 minutes to Jonas Vingegaard. Speaking on his Watts Occurring podcast, Geraint Thomas gave his views on the dramatic stage.

Alongside his Belgian, INEOS Grenadiers teammate, Laurens de Plus, the pair discuss whether the disappointment of the prior day's time-trial had a big effect on the two-time Tour de France winner and UAE Team Emirates leader.

"Imagine how Pog felt when he woke up," says De Plus. "He must have been broken. Trying to win the Tour but you know it's over. We could say that maybe he was coming back but if you lose 1:40 you know it's over."

"You just don't know how he's feeling do you? Whether he's sick or just completely dead," adds Thomas. "You feel sorry him. You never like to see someone suffering and losing so much time like that but at the same time, we've all been there."

"Body and mind is one thing. If you crack mentally, you crack physically," concludes De Plus.
