After a busy week,
Fernando Gaviria managed to take two wins at the
Tour of Oman and is with good reason happy to be back at his winning ways, as he now eyes the
UAE Tour where he will be targeting bigger wins.
“I’m really happy to take the last stage here in Oman. It’s been a good week for me and the team. I’m happy because my team worked well and stayed focussed on winning the stage and we were able to deliver," Gaviria said after the stage. After winning on the opening day Gaviria had already taken off some of the pressure of his shoulders, but today on the final stage he resisted the attacks that came on the short but steep climbs en route to Matrah Corniche to then cross the line first after being the fastest in the final sprint.
Gaviria completed, confirming his satisfaction with the week's performance: "From the beginning we tried to take control of the race and luckily I had good legs in the finish and could take the sprint. It was a nice week: one of the beauties of this sport is to travel and discover new countries and cultures. So to ride in amazing places like Oman is great and we’ll hope to be back next year.”
Rest won't come aplenty though as this sunday he will be at the start of the UAE Tour where the team will be hoping for more success with both Gaviria and the climber duo of Tadej Pogačar and João Almeida who will be fighting for the general classification.
