Mads Pedersen is one of the men considered most likely to challenge Mathieu van der Poel and Tadej Pogacar this Saturday at Milano-Sanremo 2025. A big reason for this is, is the incredible form he showed at Paris-Nice last week, winning a sprint stage and also showcasing some career-best form in the mountains, climbing and even attacking alongside some of the very best in the world.

According to the Lidl-Trek leader himself, a crazy cocktail could be the secret behind his recent success. "I’ve started using Nomio," Pedersen reveals on the podcast Lang Distance. "It’s broccoli. Compressed broccoli, which helps reduce your lactate. Nomio combined with bicarbonate, and then just a ‘Monner’ (Monster energy drink, ed.)."

Although perhaps not a typical recipe for success for a pro cyclist, as proven by Pedersen's performance during Paris-Nice, it certainly works a treat. "Every day during Paris-Nice, I drank a Monster. I mean, during the race. Just a ‘Monner’ in the bottle with three hours to go. Just chug it down," he continues. "If it was a sprinter’s stage, I had it sugar-free. That way, it’s easier to calculate with all the other energy products. And then in the last few days, I’ve just gone full throttle on the sugary energy drink. I can tell you, that gives you some serious power."
