Enric Mas has taken another step forward in his recovery after the crash that forced him out of the 2025 Tour de France. The Movistar Team leader, who hit the deck during the descent of the Mûr-de-Bretagne on Stage 2, was later diagnosed with thrombophlebitis in his left leg — a complication that sidelined him for the remainder of the season.
Now, as the off-season begins, Movistar has confirmed that Mas has undergone successful surgery to treat varicose formations in the same leg: "Enric Mas underwent a successful operation yesterday to address varicose formations in his left leg. The procedure went ahead as planned and without complications. In the coming days, the rider will attend the necessary follow-up appointments and, if his recovery progresses favourably, he will begin his winter training programme in the coming weeks."
In a brief statement, Movistar thanked fans and the cycling community for the support shown throughout the Spaniard’s recovery process. "The team would like to thank everyone for their interest and messages of support."

No Timetable, But a Clear Goal

There’s no fixed timeline for Mas’s return, but both rider and team have made clear that the priority is a full recovery. At 30, Mas remains central to Movistar’s GC ambitions, and the team is in no rush to bring him back before he's ready.
While his absence will be felt in the early part of the 2026 season, Movistar appears confident in its depth. With Cian Uijtdebroeks now on board from Team Visma | Lease a Bike, and Einer Rubio continuing to develop, the Spanish outfit expects both riders to lead the charge at the Grand Tours of the coming season.
As for Mas, all signs point toward a return for the summer — with the Tour de France and, more significantly, the Vuelta a España in his sights. The latter could present a golden opportunity: with neither Tadej Pogacar nor Jonas Vingegaard expected to ride the 2026 edition, the door may be open for Mas to make a serious run at the one podium step that has so far eluded him — the top.
