The 2025 Volta a Catalunya has kicked off this Monday, attracting a star-studded field of cyclists aiming for the coveted general classification victory. Among them is Enric Mas, who returns to competition with Movistar Team after his early March campaign in the French classics.
Mas leads a formidable Movistar squad, which has been built with the mountains in mind. His teammates, including former Grand Tour champion Nairo Quintana, will be crucial in helping him navigate the challenges posed by rivals like Primož Roglič, Juan Ayuso, Mikel Landa, and others.
Before the start of the first stage, Mas spoke to Movistar Team, expressing his confidence in his current form and his determination to fight for the win. "We've arrived in good shape," Mas commented. "We've had a solid block of altitude training after racing in the Vuelta a Andalucía and the French classics. I feel ready and competitive for the Volta a Catalunya."
The Spaniard was so close to victory earlier this season at the Faun-Ardèche Classic, where a last-minute mistake in the final corner cost him a potential win. That near-miss has only fueled his desire to end his victory drought, which has now stretched since October 2022.
The route of this year's Volta a Catalunya promises to be challenging and exciting. Mas knows every stage will count toward the final result, with no room for complacency.
"There are three very tough stages, and the final one in Montjuïc will also be crucial. But we can't take any stage for granted, as every one of them will play a role in the overall classification," Mas warned. "The team is feeling strong, and we're all in good spirits. We're ready to give it our all in this race."
With a combination of experienced riders and a well-balanced approach to the mountains, Movistar Team is looking to make a serious impact as the Volta a Catalunya unfolds, with Mas at the helm of their general classification challenge.
