As the Giro d'Italia takes a rest day, action does not stop as Ellen van Dijk of Trek - Segafredo will be hitting the Grenchen velodrome this afternoon in an attempt to take the Hour Record.
“This has been a dream of mine for a very long time. The hour record is something that I have always said I wanted to do one day and now that day is finally here," she said ahead of the event which is set to take place this afternoon in Grenchen, Switzerland.
“Joss also did it in Grenchen and that’s where I will attempt my hour record too." The Dutch veteran will have to beat the distance of Joss Lowden, who rode 48.405Km/h in September of last year. Off the back of a World time-trial title, van Dijk will have a strong opportunity to take the record to another level.
We chose the Velodrome Suisse as it is a very fast track and although attempting it in Mexico, at altitude, might have been even faster, it would have required a completely different preparation," the 35-year old said.
