Elia Viviani has rolled back the years to take his first victory since signing for
Lotto, just his team's second win of the season, in a frantic bunch sprint finale to stage 7 of the 2025
Tour of Turkey.
A group of eight riders came together to form the day's early breakaway, the most well known of the riders being former UAE rider Valerio Conti, now riding for Team Solution Tech - Vini Fantini. With 30km to go, the break still led the peloton by around a minute and a half, meaning the expected sprint finish was by no means a formality.
With some GC attacks coming on the day's only categorised climb though, that gap was quickly shortened and then ultimately extinguished completely after last man standing Jelle Vermoote was caught with just over 7km to go. Despite a few crashes in the run-in, a sprint was indeed the decider of the day. In that fight for the line, it was then Elia Viviani who rolled back the years to edge out his old rival
Alexander Kristoff in a tight finale.
