AG2R Citroën Team's Dorian Godon has won the 86th edition of the Giro del Veneto in a messy finale to the day.
After six riders had embarked on forming the day's breakaway, just four remained after the third ascent of the Monte Berico with around 30km to go. Despite the fervour of the chase, the leaders maintained a lead of over a minute heading into the final 20km.
With just over 6km to go, they were caught though as the peloton regained control at the front of the race. Into the final kilometre, it was still all together despite a couple of flyers. Dorian Godon proved the strongest, powering to the win in a leg-sapping, uphill sprint to the line.
