Team Jayco AlUla's Dylan Groenewegen has powered to a victory at the Ronde van Limburg 2024 after a thrilling finale to the one-day race in Belgium.
Despite repeated attacks throughout the stage, the peloton remained in firm control of things and with 40km to go, just one rider (Petr Kelemen of the Tudor Pro Cycling Team) was dangling a handful of seconds out front, with the riders taking the bell for the final lap of the circuit.
Once Keleman was swallowed up soon after, the teams of the main pre-race protagonists came to the front of the bunch and firmly asserted their control ahead of the cobbles. On the cobbles though, Team Visma | Lease a Bike went on the attack through Danish prospect Morten Aalling Nørtoft, with the 21-year-old soon joined by Simon Pellaud.
Heading into the final 10km though, it was all back together at the front of the race once again. For a while at least, before with around 4km to go, another Team Visma | Lease a Bike attack reignited the race. Heading into the finale, five riders were narrowly out front, including Visma's Julien Vermote.
Despite the drama of the late attacks, it was the expected bunch sprint that settled the day. In the sprint for the line, it was Biniam Girmay who opened things up, but Dylan Groenewegen was in the end, a comfortable winner, taking his first victory since January ahead of Simon Dehairs and Arnaud De Lie.
