Disaster has struck for
Antonio Tiberi, as the 23-year-old was forced to abandon the
Tour of the Alps during today’s stage due to illness.
The Bahrain Victorious rider had been using the race as a key part of his build-up to the Giro d’Italia, which begins on 9 May. Whether he’ll now be able to start Italy’s Grand Tour remains uncertain.
Tiberi was one of Italy’s biggest hopes going into this year’s Giro. In 2024, he impressed by finishing fifth overall and winning the young rider classification, underlining his status as a rising star.
The news is a significant blow both for Tiberi and
Bahrain - Victorious, who had been counting on his form as a cornerstone of their Giro ambitions. All eyes will now be on his recovery in the coming days.
