Demi Vollering has done it again! The Team SD Worx leader proved to be on another level as the Vuelta a Burgos Feminas came to a conclusion taking a dominant stage win and securing the overall race victory.
The best is saved for last, the most famous climb in the region will see the ending of the 2023 edition of the race. It's a day with 121 kilometres on the menu which end at the Lagunas de Neila, the ascent is 12 kilometres long at over 6%, whilst the final three kilometres average almost 10% average gradient.
As the race headed towards the final decisive climb, three riders were out in front of the peloton, Sara Martín (Movistar Team), Elisa Balsamo (Trek - Segafredo) and Alexandra Manly (Team Jayco AlUla).
With just over 11km to go, right before the climbing started the peloton swallowed up the break with Team SD Worx setting the pace.
As Demi Vollering came to the front, only Shirin van Anrooij was able to stay in touch with the all-conquering Dutchwoman.
Van Anrooij couldn't keep contact for long however and soon Vollering was a lone leader at the front of the race.
Maintaining her tempo and staying focused, Vollering was soloing to yet another brilliant victory and taking the overall race victory as well.
Going into the final 3km Vollering led van Anrooij by 32 seconds with a group containing Chloe Dygert and Silvia Persico 57 seconds down on Vollering.
With the time gaps only growing, van Anrooij was soon caught by that chasing group.
There was no catching Vollering though as she claimed the victory by well over a minute.
