Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team rider Davide Ballerini has won the fourth stage of the Tour de Wallonie. He beat José Joaquín Rojas and Ivo Oliveira to secure the victory.
The breakaway included Kenneth Vanbilsen (Cofidis), Thijs Aerts (Baloise-Trek Lions), Davide Ballerini (Quick-Step-Alpha Vinyl), Cameron Wurf (INEOS Grenadiers), José Joaquín Rojas (Movistar) and Rui Oliveira (UAE Emirates). The breakaway enjoyed a lead of seven minutes from the peloton.
Robert Stannard tried to counterattack the breakaway several times throughout the stage, along with Matthias Skjelmose, Omer Goldstein, Maxim Van Gils, and Lorenzo Rota. Ballerini, Rojas, and Oliveira took some lead in the final kilometers of the race.
Ballerini launched an early attack 500 meters before the finish line. Rojas and Oliveria counterattacked him, but Ballerini kept the lead in the sprint. Movistar rider José Joaquín Rojas finished second and Ivo Oliveira finished third.Robert Stannard continues his lead in GC.
