After winning yesterday's stage into Terni, Caleb Ewan has abandoned Tirreno-Adriatico in order to focus on Milano-Sanremo where he will be targeting the win.
Milano-Sanremo will take place on the 19th of March. It's the first monument of the season and Ewan has finished in second place in 2018 and 2021. It's the most sprinter-friendly monument and Ewan is looking to improve on that second place, which in both occasions saw him win the bunch sprint behind a solo rider.
With the final stage of Tirreno-Adriatico suited to the Australian it's a relative surprise to see the Australian DNF. He is reported to be suffering slightly from a crash in yesterday's stage and with the climbing that has kicked off today's stage.
