Ruben Guerreiro to "respect the team's goals, which is to compete in a stage"

Ruben Guerreiro will be one of the weapons for EF Education-EasyPost to try and take success from this Tour de France, as the Portuguese climbers seeks a stage win in the mountains.

"I really have no idea how far I can go in this, my second appearance on the Tour, but the ambition is to win and I feel in better physical shape than last year, so I will fight for my goals and the team's," Guerreiro told Agência Lusa before the start of the Tour.

"A top-10 is always something a professional cyclist looks for when he comes to the Tour - a top-10 in the Tour de France or a big Tour is one of the greatest things you can do in cycling. Respect the team's goals, which is to compete in a stage. That's what I'm going to focus on," Guerreiro revealed. After finishing on the Top10 of the Critérium du Dauphiné and winning the Mont Ventoux Dénivelé Challenge, the Portuguese was hinted as an outsider for the Tour.

However, like some of his rivals, the GC should likely not be a goal, but instead a stage win in the mountains will. "We'll see what the race itself has to give me and, with that, I'll improvise. I'm not going to work for anyone, no one is going to work for me. I'm, let's say, a free rider. Here in Denmark and the cobbles, anything can happen".

The EF Education-EasyPost rider admits: "I like pressure. When they don't put pressure on me, I lose a bit of the flame. I put a lot of pressure on myself, and that's what makes me want to win more". This will favour him, specially when the goal will be to win at the Tour de France.
