Sitting 2nd in the general classification,
Remco Evenepoel is the closest rider to Tadej Pogacar at the 2025
Tour de France currently. The
Soudal - Quick-Step leader has just received a blow though, as early on stage 7, one of his key domestiques has been forced to abandon the race.
After visibly struggling throughout the early part of stage 7, with around 120km to go, the official news arrived that
Mattia Cattaneo had abandoned the Grand Tour. The vastly experienced Italian seems to be battling some kind of illness, although the official confirmation of exactly what is troubling him, isn't noted at the time of writing.
With such a big day coming up, and a potentially key finale at the Mûr-de-Bretagne, Evenepoel will be hoping the absence of Cattaneo doesn't prove to be an important one.
