Movistar rider
Annemiek van Vleuten won her third grand tour of the season on Sunday. She secured the
Ceratizit Challenge by La Vuelta with over a minute lead.
“It was a very nice race, especially because during this week, we have made a great team effort,” said Van Vleuten. She was placed in 5th position in GC in the TTT stage but worked her way up to the top in the second stage.“In the end, a team time trial like the one on the first day is the best example of working together, but above all, on the second day, the girls did a great job, preparing the terrain perfectly so that I could get the best out of it,” said Van Vleuten.
She is over the moon with the victory. This also gives her confidence for World Championships. “On a personal level, I'm very happy with the sensations I got, especially on the day in Colindres. You always come with some doubts, after five weeks without competing, without being able to check your form against your rivals, but I'm going to the World Championships with peace of mind and convinced that I'm able to maintain the level at which I arrived at the Tour,” concluded Van Vleuten.
