The Tour de Suisse kicked out in Küsnacht with a difficult 177.6km four-lap circuit race. Three intermediate sprints were held in Gossau in between, with the race finishing just over the crest of the Küsnachter Berg, where Andreas Kron finished the stage in third and returned to the highest level in World Tour racing.
Kron, who finished the second stage in 61st place, rode a very strong opening day where he went over the day's climbs with the best and had a say in the fight for the stage win. "On the final climb it went really fast and I just made it. I was always focused on a possible sprint and I let the GC guys play the game. When the sprint started, I really believed in it and at one moment I thought I would make it. In the end it’s 3rd and the young rider’s jersey. We are here to win a stage and there are still some chances to do so. This is a good start and also for me with two third places in three days," he told the media.
"I hope to show myself a few more times the coming week," he concluded. Currently he is third in GC after stage two, six seconds behind Stephen Williams and two seconds behind Max Schachmann, and will be eyeing the leaders jersey aswell as a stage win throughout the week.
