Aleksandr Vlasov is currently in great form having performed at Paris-Nice, and will soon lead
BORA - hansgrohe at the Volta a Catalunya. However, the Russian climber may depart the team at the end of the season and rejoin
Astana Qazaqstan Team.
Vlasov was part of the Astana team from 2020 to 2021 where he made his debut in Grand Tours and had his best result with a fourth at the 2021 Giro. He moved to BORA - hansgrohe in 2022 in hopes of improving his level and results however this was not ultimately done. The Russian rider remained a consistent climber and stage-racer, with victories at the Tour de Romandie, Tour de Suisse and Paris-Nice.
In the 2023 season there was some controversy when it came to the Vuelta a España where it looked to be clear that he was having an internal battle with Cian Uijtdebroeks for best placed GC rider. Into the 2024 season he also made it clear that he still had high ambitions despite Primoz Roglic's signing and the duo's separate ambitions for the Tour de France.
Vlasov, according to Gazzetta dello Sport's Ciro Scognamiglio, will receive an offer from Astana into the 2025 season. As the Kazakh team seriously struggles for UCI points and World Tour maintenance, and lacking a leader for the uphill terrain, it could be that the two will connect once again.
