Amstel was basically unwatchable as it was, but imagine for a second he wasn't their driving group 2.

If a 19 year-old winning ahead of a field of more seasoned pros isn't a surprise then I don't know what is.

I don't understand the hatred shown towards him. He seems like a decent guy, he is very popular in the peloton, his teammates love him. yes he gets heated during competition, but he is trying to win. and he has big goals for himself, which I respect him setting. people disliked him even before he started talking about his religion - which is also good for him, let him practice the faith he wants - people show irrational hatred towards him.

Active discussion around a rider in cycling circles is in no way an indicator of any upcoming fever. A French fever has every village apero and bbq discussing performance odds and this is not happening, most people still have no idea he exists, he’s hardly had airtime mainstream wise and NONE of this is likely to change unless he lines up for the Tour. Itzulia doesn’t register on mainstream news.

Can't put Almeida on the same level as Vingo. If Jonas shows up in his usual form, stays healthy and doesn't crash then he wins comfortably. Almeida will in all likelihood be the best of the rest.Hopefully his team actually supports him rather than riding for their own chances.

Pogi used to have the odd bad day/off day. That seems like history. Two separate bad days cost him two TdFs

Interesting... solo from an attack before? He has the endurance to win but not the w/kg. Attacking on the penultimate climb and using his massive engine to hold off the peloton on the flat that follows to reach the Mur alone might be his best shot
