I'm glad I had a chance to experience cycling greatness. Both Merckx as a child and Pojacar today. Oh, and let's add Hinault, Indurain, and even the competitors during the sad every of widespread doping. Cycling has always been a difficult sport to master: ride duration, climbing, altitude, suffering. Day in and day out. It's not like swimming where there are meaningful and comparable individual records. Over time equipment, nutrition, road surfaces and rules have changed. Speeds are higher. Competition is more expansive as Woods points out. Comparing eras leads is the realm of opinion for fans. Enjoy the conversations, just don't expect an objective answer.

I'm loving the level of competition and the compositions of teams in 2025. Sure Pogi had an historic 2024. Slate is clean in 2025. And lots of great athletes--MvdP, Vingo, Primoz, Remco, Marc Hircshi, Pidcock, Carlos Rodriquez--and strong teams want to win. I think Pogi will have another great season in 2025. But I think we will talk about others having great seasons too. Who? I don't know. I'll watch the classics and tours and will root for spirited competition.

The top grand tour teams have money, management and riders. Roglic, Pojacar, Vingo, Remco. The other teams only have money and management. This isn't just Ineos, it's every other team. Sure MVDP, Girmay, Jasper have some decent results, but not the grand tour wins that Ineos seeks. Ineos' bets on G Thomas, Bernal, Rodriguez, Pidcock and others were admirable, but those riders aren't Pogicar et al. If Ineos nabbed one of the stars or brought one up via a development team, this article wouldn't have gotten written.

For context: Population of Slovenia: 2.1 Million People Population of France: 68.0 Million People. And then there's also Tratnik and Mohorič. This is more than a golden age, this is peloton domination.
