Ethan Hayter will race in the team pursuit, omnium and Madison in the Track World Championships, and the INEOS Grenadiers rider is aiming high on a discipline that has seen him grow immensely.
“It would obviously be easier for me not to do the track. But I think I enjoy it, it’s somewhere I can still win gold medals at the worlds and Olympics hopefully. I don’t see any reasons to stop doing it," Hayter told Independent. “You have to make decisions. You can’t do every race. Even on the road, you can’t do every race. You have to pick and choose and not do too much.”

Hayter has turned pro with the British team, and has taken several high-level wins and proven his worth as one of the most versatile riders in the peloton, with an interesting mix of puncheurs, sprinter and time-trialist that make him a very valuable asset. With his road season concluded however, he has taken the time to prepare for the Track, where he'll be chasing further results.
“I think as long as you’re clever with how it fits,” he argued, in favour of combining both. “Sometimes it can be a benefit adding extra stimulus to your training from the track. If you look at [Mark Cavendish] he won everything that year when he was focusing on Rio.
INEOS have taken to the track over the last few months, with Dan Bigham - who will be teaming up with Hayter - and Filippo Ganna both setting new Hour Records. The team has also announced yesterday the signing of Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, further boosting the team's capacities away from the road, as they look to feature their riders across all disciplines.
“I think the team are always happy if you’re going well. Maybe if it’s not working they’d start asking some questions, but it’s all right," Hayter concluded.
