- You may very well be right, sadly i think we'll miss a great opportunity for cycling because of money!
- My strategy when in the wrong country is follow the live tickers (not unlike written radio* broadcasts in the distant past) on several sites at the time and if the race sounds like it was interesting I search for the replays.
Also, if you don’t check the results, a replay is just as exciting as live.
I’d love for cycling to make a comeback on radio, would be so cool not to miss the action when on a long-distance drive.
- I can imagine their logic actually went, cycling is coming to Britain, probably enough punters will subscribe to watch the fuss.
- Late stage capitalism eating its own tail, these companies have got us plugged into the Matrix or near as dammit…. I agree with Mistermaumau, get outside and watch it (or even just get outside)
There’s many times I wish Bill Hicks was still with us, I’d love to hear his world view right now!
- Lets be blunt, this is more more about how every other sport supports the MASSIVE contracts these TV companies hand out to football (soccer) around the world; cycling, rugby, Moto GP and everything else underpins football contract and we suffer. Unlike Italy, our government couldn't care less about it's people and proves it on a daily basis!
Brian is spot on, 2027 Grand Depart, something that should bolster cycling in the UK and unless you are at the side of the road or pay for coverage you won't see a pedal turn.
Monetising sport is probably good for sport's organisers and rights holders and the billionaire tv companies but it's terrible for us!!
- I hope he continues to do what he's been doing because its been fantastic to watch a career that'll go down in legends
- All IMPORTANT EVENTS in Italy remain free thanks to a successful state policy (one of the few positive aspects of inept Italian politicians).
And there are affordable private alternatives to watch the rest (except for local football championships, those are expensive, around 30 euros a month).
- isn't tour de france broadcasted on tv5 monde ?
- The way things are going, next will be the football WC and then the Olympics and then there will be nothing free worth watching ever again.
- 31£? Totally exagerated. In Italy we pay Discovery 5.49 EUR a month: all UCI races, all winter sports , AO, Roland Garros, and more.
And if you're not interested in watching ALL the races, but only the most important ones, you can watch them for free on RAI (the state broadcaster). It's important to have a state-run counterpart that prevents private monopolies/oligopolies from taking advantage of the situation and abusing prices.
