Baloise - Glowi Lions are trying to take hold of the cyclocross cups and today in Tabor they have done a good job to take the lead of the World Cup. Thibau Nys has taken his first win in the Belgian national champion jersey this winter, taking a dominant win after his teammate Lucinda Brand did the same in the women's race.
Nys managed to take hold of the race early on, after Kevin Kuhn took the holeshot and Joris Nieuwenhuis took to the front of the race still in the first lap. However the Dutch rider took a small crash and Nys who was following him immediatelly pushed the pace and consolidated the gap the duo had to the riders behind.
The race was done and dusted there unless he was to suffer from setbacks, but this was not the case. Nys put on a stellar exhibition without any major flaws, and with great legs, to take the first win of the World Cup and put on the leader's jersey.
Cameron Mason suffered a puncture right at the start of the race and another one of the main favourites, Michael Vanthourenhout, suffered a major crash mid-race which saw him fall out of the top positions. Behind Nys it was a race for second place, which was taken by Laurens Sweeck whilst Nieuwenhuis rode to third. Niels Vandeputte and Pim Ronhaar also lost serious points to Nys.
