Jonas Vingegaard has a seemingly "simple" task in front of himself; to win the
Giro d'Italia in absence of all the GC big guns. With the likes of Giulio Pellizzari and Felix Gall emerging as main challengers, there seems to be no real threat to the Dane's goal of completing his Grand Tour collection after having won the Tour twice (2022 and 2023) and Vuelta last year.
And even though the internal pressure is probably under control, outside world is definitely putting a lot of weight on Vingegaard's shoulders as not just a win - but a dominant performance is the minimum. A clear statement sent towards Tadej Pogacar with view to Tour de France is what the Dane's fans wish to see.
Thus, a period of (mental) rest in the weeks before Giro could prove vital to Visma's star. Vingegaard has used this necessary downtime at home to enjoy family life and publicly support his wife, Trine, as she launches her new business.
The project, realised in an app called MyPreffy, aims to help people discover the world’s most beautiful places. Away from the pressure of impending competition, the Danish champion found the right moment to highlight the key role his partner plays in his balance.
Through his
Instagram (known to be part-managed by his wife), the Visma rider expressed deep admiration for his wife’s immense work capacity amid his demanding international schedule. The climber made his amazement clear with heartfelt words, saying: "I’m very proud of Trine."
To underline the scale of this entrepreneurial achievement, he added: "It’s truly extraordinary that you’re building such an amazing app, while always being there for the kids at home and always supporting me, wherever I go."
He closed his tribute with a clear message: "I’m happy for you, you’re an inspiration to me."
