Wout van Aert will continue his quest for a win in 2025 this afternoon on stage 3 of the 2025
Giro d'Italia. After a bit of a disappointing time trial on stage 2, the
Team Visma | Lease a Bike star is keen to bounce back quickly.
The biggest challenge of the day to the hopes of the sprinters is a 10.5km, cat 2 climb with around 50km to go. Given that Van Aert has always been one of those fast finisher most capable of matching the best on the climbs though, their is hope. “Yes, but I think the rest of the stage will be quite tough too," analyses the 30-year-old Belgian honestly in his post-stage interview at the start line. "I’m expecting a hard day and a real battle. It’s also a good opportunity for a lot of riders to try and break away.”
“I hope to be in the mix. Yesterday was a disappointment, but I’m hoping I can get back to the level we showed on Friday. That’s still a bit uncertain, though,” continues Van Aert. “A lot of teams will be looking to Lidl-Trek to set the pace and control things. So will we. They’re the favourites after the opening stage, and they’re eager to take back the pink jersey. I expect them to dictate the race. That means the pace will automatically go up on the climb, and a lot of sprinters will be dropped.”
