Diego Ulissi won the stage 4 of
Tour of Oman, the veteran Italian rider from
UAE Team Emirates, achieved here his first win of the season in a selective sprint finish ahead of Axel Zingle (Team Cofidis) and Ide Schelling (Bora-Hansgrohe). The Italian spoke very well of the UAE Team Emirates tactic on the post race interview.
"We played it perfectly as a team, Ackermann attacked in the last ten kilometres, behind that, Vink and Formolo did a fantastic job to make me sprint. I had the good position and in the last 50 metres I passed them to take the win", Ulissi said.
With this win Ulissi got the second place of the general classification only 5 seconds behind the leader Matteo Jorgenson. Could this mean that Ulissi will also fight for the general classification? The Italian is a bit unsure since tomorrow will be the Green Mountain stage a very difficult mountain with 5.7 km at 10%, but Ulissi will give it a try.
"We started the race with classification ambitions for Formolo. Yesterday was not a good day for us, but I am now second in the classification. However, the most important thing is that we won the stage. We are now looking at tomorrow, but the last climb is very difficult. It's my first time in Oman. We will see tomorrow, but we are already happy with this win.", Ulissi concluded.
