Another explosive sprint finish in Tour of Oman, this time more flat and more suited to the sprinter puncheurs. Diego Ulissi won the stage 4 of Tour of Oman, the Team UAE Emirates rider followed the Cofidis Team leadout train very well to secure a sprint win in a very disputed sprint finish.
Under23 World Champion Yevgeniy Fedorov (Astana Qazaqstan) and 3 other riders escaped the peloton early one forming the breakaway being caught around 11 km to the finish. In the Al Jissah climb (3.2 km at 5.4%) Maxim Van Gils launched a powerful attack counter by Alexey Lutsenko that made an elite group of 4 riders with race leader Matteo Jorgenson and second overall Mauri Vansevenant. But they were caught by the peloton and Pascal Ackermann launched a surprising solo attack.
On the last climb, the Yitti Hills, Ackermann was caught and another rider from Kern Pharma tried his luck but to no avail. All ended in a sprint finish with Cofidis Team doing a good leadout to his sprinter Axel Zingle only to be beaten by the veteran rider Diego Ulissi of the UAE Team Emirates.
Diego Ulissi (Team UAE Emirates) finished ahead of Axel Zingle (Cofidis Team) and Ide Schelling (Bora-Hansgrohe) completed the podium. In the overall Matteo Jorgenson kept his leadership with one stage to the end of Tour of Oman.
