Edoardo Affini has had a golden few days in Limburg. After securing the European title in the men's individual time trial, the 28-year-old has now doubled up courtesy of victory alongside Mattia Cattaneo, Mirco Maestri, Elena Cecchini, Vittoria Guazzini and Gaia Masetti in the mixed relay team time trial at the 2024 European Championships.
“We did well. We executed our plan perfectly," the Team Visma | Lease a Bike star reflected in afterwards immediately following his team's success. "Of course we went all out. We, the three men, wanted to give the women as big a lead as possible. They finished it off.”
"Finally we win this jersey. We love this discipline. Yesterday we were very happy for the medals of Affini and Mattia Cattaneo. Today they did it again gold," added FDJ-SUEZ's Guazzini. “When we heard on the radio from our team manager what a lead they had given us, we were extra motivated to finish it off.”
