There’s no sugar-coating it,
Team Picnic PostNL are enduring
a rough start to the 2025 season. With results failing to materialise and their
UCI ranking under pressure, particularly in contrast to the strong early form
of rivals
XDS Astana Team, the mood in the Dutch squad has been far from
upbeat.
One of the team’s most experienced riders,
Warren Barguil,
has broken his silence with a candid Instagram post reflecting on the first
half of the year. The 33-year-old Frenchman, still best known for his two stage
wins and polka dot jersey triumph at the 2017 Tour de France, has struggled to
make an impact this season. He finished 34th at Paris–Nice and suffered a crash
at Liège–Bastogne–Liège that disrupted his momentum.
“Ending the first part of the season. It hasn't been easy:
repeated struggles, getting sick before several races, and a lot of bad luck
with the team...
“But we hung on. Finishing this block with a top 10 is
really good for the morale, especially after the fall in Liège. Now time for a
little break, time to recharge the batteries. Hopefully the wheel will finally
turn, because so far we haven't been polished...
“With the team, we stay motivated and determined to reverse
the trend.”
