Visma forced to call in Tim van Dijke for Giro d'Italia as Koen Bouwman got sick at Tour de Romandie

The string of bad luck doesn't seem to have an end for Visma | Lease a Bike this year. The Dutch team's Giro d'Italia lineup already took big hits with leaders Wout van Aert and Wilco Kelderman dropping out of the selected eight with injuries in the spring. Now it's clear that the 2022 King of Mountains Koen Bouwman won't make the trip to Italy either after getting ill at Tour de Romandie.

DS Marc Reef describes the situation"In the past weeks, we've lost Wout van Aert and Wilco Kelderman. Koen Bouwman was supposed to replace Wilco, but he fell ill during the Tour de Romandie. Koen will be replaced by Tim van Dijke. He, Edoardo Affini, and Christophe Laporte will certainly strengthen Olav's sprint train."
