Georg Zimmermann has taken his first World Tour win today at the Criterium du Dauphiné, a hard-earned triumph which came as the fruit of a powerful attack and painful sprint at the end of stage 6.
Part of the day's initial breakaway, he made the three-rider selection which entered the final climb in the fight for the win. He attacked with 1.9 kilometers to go but was caught by
Mathieu Burgaudeau with only 500 meters to the line, but then found himself with the best legs in the grueling sprint which decided the outcome of the day.
