Filippo Ganna sprinting to the stage 1 win at the 2025 Volta ao Algarve wasn't in and of itself a surprising result. The way the race was decided before ultimately ending with the Italian in celebration though, was utterly bizarre.
Heading into the final straight, the peloton seemingly followed a commissaires car that was being taken off course, leaving them on the completely wrong side of the road for the finale. Ganna and a few others had their head screwed on correctly though, keeping to the actual course and eventually snatching the stage win in the most farcical of circumstances.

Maybe the organisers were too focused on safety to check logistics?
