Joshua Tarling was the pre stage favourite to take the Red Jersey on the opening stage of the 2024 Vuelta a Espana. Sadly for the Welshman however, he wasn't quite able to set the fastest time.
Team Visma | Lease a Bike's Edoardo Affini was one of the early riders of the day and managed to set a blistering time of 12:43. When Tarling started his efforts, that still was the best time clocked so far. The wind had noticeably picked up though. Nevertheless, at the intermediate check, Tarling was fastest. By the line, the Welshman was no longer the quickest however, losing out to Affini by just .28 of a second.
