UPDATE: Lotto Dstny's Maxim van Gils continues at Volta a Catalunya despite heavy stage one crash

On the day his Lotto Dstny contract was extended, Maxim van Gils was involved in a nasty crash on the opening stage of the Volta a Catalunya 2024.

Van Gils was visibly frustrated after the incident and one of the breakout stats of 2024 so far, vented that anger on those surrounding him in the immediate aftermath.

"Van Gils is experiencing too much pain in his right wrist to start tomorrow," announces Lotto Dstny. "He will return to Belgium for further examination."

This morning however, more positive news has emerged and it now seems van Gils will take to the start of stage 2 after all. "After his crash yesterday, Maxim Van Gils immediately got medical assistance from the team’s doctor and physio treatments. This morning the pain in his wrist was less with the medication and treatments," Lotto Dstny confirm.
