One of the dark horses for stage one of the 2024 Volta a Catalunya, Maxim van Gils may have seen his chances taken a blow after being caught up in an innocuous crash.
On the same day it was announced the Belgian had extended his Lotto Dstny contract for two further years, van Gils was in no mood to celebrate in the immediate aftermath of his crash, cutting a visibly frustrated figure. Letting off steam at his teammates seemingly, van Gils wasn't best pleased.
