Soudal-Quick-Step team managed to redeem themselves after a mistake in stage one that cost their main sprinter
Fabio Jakobsen to get the win in stage 1. This time things went well for the Belgian Team, with Fabio Jakobsen praising specially the work that Remco Evenepoel did in the front of the peloton.
“Unprecedented, world-class”, said Fabio Jakobsen about the performance of his teammate and World Champion Remco Evenepoel in words collected by Sporza.
Remco Evenepoel retributed the compliments that his teammate gave to him and complained a bit about the distance of the stage, although eventually everything went for the better.
“With everything going well, the best one wins. Done. It was an endless day. After 130 kilometers, I said to Yves Lampaert that it seemed like we had been cycling for 300 kilometers. Luckily, the final went quite fast. It does feel good after yesterday. We showed that we have a super strong lead-out.”, stated the World Champion.
“It was an endlessly and tremendously hot day. My Garmin indicated 47 degrees. For us to finish after yesterday is fantastic”, complained also Yves Lampaert about the weather circumstances but at same time happy for the win.
On the other hand, there was one of the Soudal-Quick-Step riders that wasn't much happier, Michael Morkov, “It wasn't the perfect lead-out. But we have such a strong man like Remco. He set everything up well. I waited a bit too long myself and got swamped, but luckily Fabio was the fastest”, stated the Danish lead out specialist who still got to celebrate the win of his teammate.
