UCI WorldTour Riders Ranking Update: Tadej Pogacar untouchable as inactive Jonas Vingegaard’s podium comes under threat

We come off a week featuring stage races like the Arctic Race, the Tour of the Czech Republic, and the downbeat Volta a Portugal, plus the WorldTour classic Bemer Cyclassics Hamburg, none of which altered the top 10 of the UCI WorldTour ranking on the eve of the Vuelta a España and other key races such as the Renewi Tour and the Deutschland Tour.
In the top 20, only minor shifts stand out: Wout van Aert edges up to 14th, moving past Christian Scaroni, while Paul Magnier climbs two spots to 16th after his win in Hamburg, which also pushed Arnaud De Lie down two places.
The biggest jump inside the top 50 goes to Thomas Silva, the Uruguayan from Astana, after taking stage and overall victory in Norway. He rises 16 places to 34th.
Laurence Pithie, third at the ADAC Cyclassics Hamburg, moves up 11 to 36th. Soren Waerenskjold, eighth on German roads, gains four to sit 48th. The top 10 remains unchanged.
The top 10 doesn’t budge
Tadej Pogacar stays number 1 in the UCI individual ranking for another week, underlining his status as the world’s best rider. The Slovenian from UAE Team Emirates-XRG leads with 11,321 points, well clear of his nearest rivals.
The main draw in the coming weeks will be his return to racing at the Vuelta a España, where Pogacar will pin on a number again after winning the Tour de France.
Remco Evenepoel holds second with 7,356 points. The Belgian from Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe has cemented his spot thanks to a strong Tour de France, where he finished second.
Pogacar has delivered a record 2026 season in financial terms
Third place belongs to Jonas Vingegaard, on 6,866 points. The Dane from Team Visma | Lease a Bike keeps his podium after a season defined by his Giro d’Italia victory. He won’t race again this year, with his spot on the podium likely to be threatened by the fourth placed rider Isaac del Toro.
The top five is rounded out by two standout names of the sport’s new generation: Isaac del Toro and Paul Seixas.
Positions 6th to 10th are also unchanged. Tom Pidcock is sixth with 4,365 points, followed by Jasper Philipsen, Mattias Skjelmose, Mathieu van der Poel and Lenny Martinez.

- The backlash Jonas faces when retiring for the season, after the TdF, is abhorrent to me - for many reasons. Aside from the fact it is entirely his/his team's prerogative, the man has had 94 race days since last year's Tour, less than the majority of the peloton (inc. - I don't think anyone should feel pressured to do something for their country, and Jonas has had a busy year. But I was just thinking that this all seemed to begin with Mads encouraging Jonas to take the step into the Worlds at Montreal, so he must have thought it was a reasonable idea. I think last year Jonas did mention that the Montreal course would suit him, maybe that got Mads' hopes up.Hills3318-08-2026
