UCI Rankings Rider Update | Remco Evenepoel hunting down Tadej Pogacar with incredible Olympic Games success

The Olympic Games have marked the past week in cycling and we have got in the meantime some updates in the UCI Rankings. Most notably, Remco Evenepoel continues to score huge points and has closed the gap to Tadej Pogacar considerably.

You can check the previous update. In terms of positions very little has changed at the top of the standings, but in terms of points that's definitely not the case. Tadej Pogacar has won big time this season and currently has almost 11.000 points in the UCI standings but, although the gap is still big, he finds a rival who is seemingly winning as impressively as him. Over this weekend Remco Evenepoel has sealed the double Olympic title in Paris and scored another 900 points which take him up to 7259 currently. Obviously, closing the gap is impossible for now, but these points will matter next season where an overtake is possible throughout the year. He has significantly expanded his lead over third place Jonas Vingegaard who "only" has 4770 currently - although that may change today at the Clásica San Sebastián.

Wout van Aert has moved up from ninth to eighth position, although he scored only a few points from a minor position in the Paris road race due to a crash. Valentin Madouas (second) moved up from 48th to 21st in the standings whilst Christophe Laporte (third) moved up from 99th to 54th - a massive leap. Attila Valter (fourth) moved into the Top100 and is now 8th whilst fifth place Toms Skujins moved from 55th to 33rd.
