The current global cycling federation head, the UCI president David Lappartient, will be applying to become French Olympic committee president ahead of Olympic Games in Paris 2024 according to reports by L'Equipe.
"It is now necessary to encourage the meeting of all stakeholders in French sport," Lappartient, who has been head of the UCI for several years, writes in an open letter. "And I think I have the capabilities to guarantee this." He is the second candidate after Emmanuelle Bonnet-Oulaldj, head of the gymnastics federation.
An important period is coming for French sport as the Olympic Games of 2024 will be held in Paris. Lappartient would like to lead the French Olympic committee for one term, which means that he would leave after 2025. He is the favorite for the presidency so far.
If Lappartient becomes Olympic committee president in his own country, the UCI will have to look for a new president. The election in France will be held on June 29.
