In the final climb bells rang as Peter Sagan was dropped very quickly, revealing his current lack of form.
Kevin Geniets launched a blistering attack and went over the summit in front alone, but was caught in the next descent as a flurry of attacks dragged the peloton quickly into the finish. DSM's Mark Donovan also tried to escape the peloton in the final kilometers through the technical streets of La-Seyne-sur-Mer, however Lotto Soudal closed the moves to reel everything into a bunch sprint.
The Belgian team leadout Ewan to the line well, and despite an early sprint by
Anthony Turgis surprising, there was no match to Caleb Ewan when he launched his sprint, winning confortably. Turgis and
Nacer Bouhanni wrapped up the podium.
