The 2026
Tour de France will bring 23 teams of all colours and designs to the roads of both Barcelona and France over the coarse of the next three weeks. Starting with a team time trial on Saturday, the eyes of the cycling world descend on the Grand Boucle.
When the world's best riders arrive from far and wide, they'll compete for iconic jerseys such as the yellow jersey, polka dot jersey and green jersey. Fans can also expect to see many national champion's jersey, signalling that the rider wearing it is the current champion in that discipline.
Renowned for their beauty and striking contrast to team jerseys,
national champion's jerseys are a major accolade nad honour for professional cyclists, who earn the right to wear the jersey for a full year until their country's next championships are played out.
A step above that is the European and World Championships winners' jerseys. At the Tour de France, it'll be quite simple to pick these out.
Tadej Pogacar is the reigning World and European champion on the road while Remco Evenepoel is the reigning World and European champion in the time trial. Both will wear the World rainbow bands, which out-rank the European champion's jersey.
20 riders come to the Tour de France representing their country's flags - 22 in total counting riders who are the current national champion in both road and time trial disciplines - making it easier for viewers and fans to spot some individual riders.
20 riders to wear National Champion's jerseys
Starting with the time trial on Saturday, Filippo Ganna's Italian jersey will be on display. Other riders currently national champions in the discipline include Isaac del Toro for Mexico, Canada's Derek Gee-West, Germany's Nils Politt and Huub Artz for the Netherlands.
On road stages, del Toro will also proudly wear the Mexican champion's jersey while Mattias Vacek will wear Czechia's - one he also wears in the time trial. The UK national champion's jersey can be spotted on the shoulders of Fred Wright while the stars and strips of the United States will make Quinn Simmons impossible not to pick out from the bunch.
