The 2026 road season has finished, but whilst some teams and riders already had their minds on the off-season for a while, that was not the case with Pinarello - Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team. Tom Pidcock was in action at the Tour of Guangxi, coming close to taking an important step in his career.
The Briton, concluding the second out of his three-year deal with Pinarello, has appeared highly motivated and with great form throughout the past two months. Early in the season he's won Milano-Torino; finished second at Milano-Sanremo behind Tadej Pogacar; and battled for several other results despite the tough injuries suffered at the Volta a Catalunya.
He won at home in Andorra in the build-up for the Tour de France where he was then a headliner, finishing in the Top10 and being one of the most active GC riders in the entire race. But it were the final months of his season that the Briton really stood out, entering them with a victory at the MTB World Championships and then returning to victories on the road at the GP Industria & Artigianato.
What followed were a string of top results, but without a win. Pidcock was Top10 at both Canadian classics, World Championships and Il Lombardia; whilst finishing second at both Giro dell'Emilia and Tre Valli Varesine. This Sunday, he also finished second at the Tour of Guangxi.

"The team committed fully for me today. Matteo [Moschetti] did an amazing job all day controlling the breakaway. On the final climb, Joey [Pidcock] and Milan [Vader] helped keep the pace high. I felt really good, but I was second best today," he said in a press release.
The victory was taken by Jarno Widar, and the Briton finished second once again to finish his season. "It came down to ten minutes after a whole week of racing, but I did everything I could. No regrets."
Pidcock has built a hefty amount of UCI points to help the Swiss team's fight for promotion within a few years, having consistently raced and finished near the top over all of his recent outings.

Quinten Hermans finishes Top10 at Veneto Classic
Quinten Hermans was the team's leader at the Veneto Classic and tried to finish the season with a golden key in Italy. The former cyclocross full-timer had a suited race with the gravel sectors, but ultimately luck was not on his side today.
"It was a very hard race right from the beginning. There was never really a breakaway, and on the first ascent of the Tisa climb, we attacked in a group of 21 riders. From that point onwards, it was full gas all the way to the finish," he reported.
The Belgian rode to seventh place on the day, hampered by a late puncture that would see him lose ground on those who fought for the podium.
"I felt quite good, but after the gravel sector I picked up a slow puncture in my front tyre and ended up finishing with a flat. It probably cost me a few places in the end, but the feeling was good," he concluded.
