Ronan Augé was victim to a serious crash at the recent Tour de Langkawi. The Frenchman suffered severe injuries whose treatment included a day spent in an induced coma. Since then, Augé had regained conciousness and shared optimistic messages regarding his hope to make a full recovery.
The list of injuries is terrifying; fractures to thigh, elbow, fingers, vertebra, skull and a punctured lung. But fortunately, it seems as though Augé escaped any long-term neurological injuries. Although that might still be a bit too soon to judge, as he reveals in his most recent Instragram post:
"50% of my face is paralysed following a cycling crash," Augé wrote alongside a video showing the effects of the injury.
The 22-year-old has not lost his sense of humour, joking that he could now pursue "a new career as a professional face-puller." Despite the uncomfortable situation at the moment, Augé remains optimistic that things should return to normal in near future.

All-inclusive without ticket home

In a previous story, Augé thanked the staff at Kuala Lumpur hospital where he had spent the past three weeks in their extensive care. In the coming days, the 22-year-old will be heading home, to France.
"Two weeks all-inclusive at a 5-star hotel in Kuala Lumpur… Heading back to France soon! It wasn’t exactly a planned trip, but the staff took such wonderful care of me," he said.
That is, because Augé has an important appointment to attend to.
"On October 24th, I had planned to host "L’apauge" - a mountain bike race, a trail ride, and a hike - as a way to give back a little of what cycling has given to me."
"After my accident, I thought this project was off the table… But I hadn’t counted on my friends, who rallied like never before to make sure the event still happens!"
The Frenchman is already very much looking forward to be present on-site of the local event, although he'd love to take a more active role in its organization.
