After Jumbo-Visma announced earlier this morning that the duo of Tobias Foss and Robert Gesink would not be at the start line of stage four's queen stage of the Tour de Romandie, both riders have called it "hugely disappointing."
"Tobias Foss and Robert Gesink had minor health issues this morning," an official announcement by the Jumbo-Visma Twitter account revealed earlier this morning. "Both will not take any risks towards the Giro d'Italia and take their time to recover. They will not start in today’s queen stage in the Tour De Romandie."
Foss, who was sitting pretty in third in the general classification was the first to react revealing his understanding of the decision, despite the disappointment. “The Giro has priority,” said Foss. “So everything is important to recover as well as possible in the coming week. I want to wish my remaining teammates the best of luck in the coming stages.”
Gesink meanwhile, is also predicted to have a major support role for Primoz Roglic at the upcoming Giro d'Italia and shared his thoughts in an Instagram post. "Not the best time to get sick, but nothing I can do except taking my time to recover towards the Giro d'Italia May 6. Best of luck to the Tour de Romandie team for the final 2 stages!"
