"This climb is where I did all my training" - Lenny Martinez triumphs at Classic Grand Besançon Doubs with brutal late attack

The future of French cycling looks in good hands with the continually impressive Lenny Martinez. In the latest display of his talents, the diminutive Frenchman took victory on Friday afternoon at the Classic Grand Besançon Doubs.

Last year, Martinez came a close second behind Victor Lafay so victory this time around tastes even sweeter for the Groupama - FDJ leader. "I attacked a little earlier than last year," the 20-year-old reflects post-race on what he did differently. "Right where I wanted to."

The brutal final climb at Montfaucon is one well-known to Martinez too, something he used to his advantage in attacking at the perfect moment. "I did all my Conti years here and this climb is where I did all my training," he explains. "It's incredible to win here, especially for the team."

In a week where it's been heavily rumoured that the Frenchman could soon be departing Groupama - FDJ for Bahrain - Victorious in a big money move, this victory is a perfect reminder of the immense potential Martinez possesses.
