"They did what they had to" - Jonas Vingegaard back home after successful collarbone surgery

The Tour de France ended for Jonas Vingegaard this Sunday on stage 15, with a crash that has left him with a fractured collarbone. The Danish rider has underwent a successful surgery, as has been confirmed by Team Visma | Lease a Bike.
Vingegaard was aiming to attack Tadej Pogacar on the stage that finished atop the Plateau de Solaison, and Visma was leading the peloton into the climb where the Dane looked to attack. This did not happen as a result of a fall with 20 kilometers to go.
The decision was quick and cruel: Withdrawal. Vingegaard suffered a fractured collarbone, a complicated one which required surgery as soon as possible. Vingegaard flew back to Denmark to be at home with his family, and this Tuesday the operation was successful.
“It went well. They did what they had to. It wasn't the most complicated operation you can have. Everything went well,” team DS Marc Reef said in words to TV2 Sport this morning.

After the fall, the mood was not overly dramatic at the Visma camp. Vingegaard talked to the media on Sunday evening to share his thoughts about the crash.
“Surprisingly, I feel quite good," he had said. "Of course, it’s very disappointing to abandon like this and for the Tour to end this way for us, but that’s bike racing sometimes. And, luckily, it’s only a broken collarbone.”
The Dane had a 'cheat meal' and joined his teammates at the dinner table, before departing the Tour camp on Monday.
His recovery time is still uncertain and the same can be said of his return to the peloton. A Vuelta a España presence is unlikely taking into consideration his racing and schedule thus far this year; aside from the recovery he will now undergo.
Potentially, the Dane could return to racing eyeing the World Championships in Montréal and Il Lombardia as goals, although in the past he has not thrived in the one-day races.
