Mark Cavendish may be coming towards the end of his legendary career, but at the
Giro d'Italia he proved he can still win Grand Tour stages. His honorary leadout man on that stage was
Geraint Thomas and now the pair have been reunited on the Welshman's podcast, Watts Occurring.
Recalling that stage victory in Rome, Thomas and Cavendish reveal the inside story. "I do remember you saying to me, 'Lad if you're going to lead me out, go on the right!'" Thomas says with a smile. "And you were like 'No lad,'" Cavendish responds hilariously.
"Then I just said 'Can I sit with you guys? Because they are fighting with me behind,'" Cavendish continues before revealing one of his pet hates in modern cycling. "F*cing Movistar or someone who's 6th on GC going 'We're 6th on GC so we can sit here.' You can't! It's not a f*cking restaurant, you can't make a reservation of where to sit in the peloton!"

Fantasy Tour de France stage 20 (RtL). "The unwritten rule is, leaders team always gets first but you just let people sit there and the more friends you have, the more chance you get to be able to sit where you want in the peloton," he laments. "These teams go 'We get to sit here because we're 6th in GC.' F*ck off!"
